Generasi terbaru yamaha R1 ini adalah merupakan pangejawantahan/aplikasi teknologi dari MotoGP Yamaha M1,dengan fitur  crossplane crankshaft  dimana dengan system pengapian (firing order:1-3-2-4) lain dari yang umumnya ini membuat motor lebih mudah dikendalikan(kontrol torsi… )
